MENTORING THROUGH MUSIC

The British School Music Club & Band

#DistancedButNotAlone
(April 2020)

An initiative that brought together creative performances across the school which were virtually showcased every evening to the parent and student community. Reminding the community that they were not alone; the programme ran for a month and received a wonderful response. Performances included an Easter celebration concert, the “Heal the World” collective and a showcase of performances by primary and secondary school.

#TBSStudentLeaders@Covid-19
(May 2020)

The British School celebrated “Simply Music” a project by the Music Club wherein the school band recorded covers of popular songs from their homes and digitally delivered these to the entire school online. Covers included “Run” by Joji, “Waiting on the world to change” by John Mayer and “It runs through me” by Tom Misch. The band received wonderful appreciation wherein they were recognised by the school as “TBSStudentLeaders@Covid-19” during the lockdown.

The British School Student Band Performances
(March 2017 – present)

The band has performed at “TBS Rise” each year, which is a three-day event held at the central school courtyard to raise environmental awareness. Through the year performances at parent coffee mornings, recruitment drive events, staff celebrations and workers appreciation day keep their roster ticking. Opening for sporting events such as the girls ISSACI football tournament at the school and last day assemblies prior to the holidays are especially engaging. While musician members are a part of the school band, music enthusiasts are coordinators who help to organise and promote musical events and the music magazine. Legacy and continuity are important aspects which aim to enable younger students to take this initiative forward. The music club meets regularly on a Tuesday after school hours.
